IGT Extension of Contract with WCLC Means Improvement of Thousands of VLTs2nd November 2020 |
Thousands of gaming enthusiasts will have the opportunity to gamble in person every day as International Gaming Technology has extended and improved its collaboration in Canada. IGT’s subsidiary, IGT Canada Solutions ULC, has extended its contract with Western Canada Lottery Corporation for another seven years, expanding on the existing contract by introducing a video lottery system with premium technology for VLTs.
Projected for the next seven years is a huge improvement of the video lottery system, with innovation becoming the name of the game. The province benefitting from the latest video system technology provided by IGT is Saskatchewan, where WCLC oversees some 4,200 VLTs scattered across the province.
IGT will continue in its role as the central systems provider for the large number of VLTs by supplying the devices with the latest version of its INTELLIGEN systems software. As explained in IGT’s press release, this system “supports the volume, complexity, and security of monitoring WCLC’s 4,200 video lottery terminals (VLTs) in Saskatchewan”. The year 2020 has seen a huge increase in demand for VLTs, and with this demand comes a bigger responsibility for WCLC and its collaborators to provide the security needed for management. IGT is known for its responsible approach to gaming management, apart from being the leader in innovative and advanced technology.
Of the relationship between WCLC and IGT, Eric Karmark, Vice President of WCLC and VLT Gaming & Operations, said “WCLC and IGT first began working together nearly 40 years ago, and in the years since, IGT has become a trusted partner in helping us operate our VLT system.” The partnership between the Crown corporation and IGT has achieved a lot throughout the decades, and the renewal of the contract for another seven years will solidify this relationship, with the result being a competitive local gambling field all individuals of legal age can enjoy. Eric Karmark continued by saying that “based on IGT’s experience and leadership with central systems, we’re confident that we will have access to new technology and provide our players with an improved overall experience.”
Western Canada Lottery Corporation has been a customer of IGT’s since 1982, and this long-standing alliance is what encouraged WCLC to pursue this upgrade. IGT’s INTELLIGEN systems can be found all over the world, connecting systems and VLTs in a multitude of gaming environments. With the help of this upgrade, players in the Saskatchewan province will be able to enjoy an enhanced player user interface with improved responsible gaming features. The system which has more than 25 years of central system experience is also expected to make the daily running of VLTs more stable, and to increase the revenue generated by VLTs.
IGT Chief Operating Officer Nick Khin said “IGT’s INTELLIGEN system upgrades will offer WCLC the most progressive tools and functionality to continue driving revenue and positioning the Lottery for future success.” Players will be able to stay engaged in gambling for a longer period of time with the help of these improved tools, with problematic gambling also being taken care of professionally.
Under the terms of the renewal, the mystery jackpots of the Vault Breaker have also been enhanced with hefty prizes able to change players’ lives forever. Gaming will now become more player-centric, also improving the overall experience of gaming enthusiasts. The much-awaited upgrade is expected to be finished by the beginning of September 2021. IGT also provides WCLC with self-service lottery terminals, draw-based lottery terminals, and instant tickets.
