The biggest ever Lotto MAX jackpot was just won in the province of Manitoba, amounting to a colossal CA$60 million. Joshua Chua from Winnipeg is the lucky ticket owner of a Lotto MAX ticket which led him to win an astronomical CA$60,000,020. In fact, Mr. Chua said it took him and his family a while to realize that they were the winners and to process the fact that their lives have now been changed forever.

He also admits that he felt slightly jealous when his wife woke him up on January 23 to tell him that someone in Winnipeg had won the CA$60 million Lotto MAX jackpot, only to realize later in the day that unknowingly, his wife had been talking about him. Mr. Chua’s mother, Angui Chua, said that at first, the family did not believe him when he broke the news to them, since John Chua is the type to always be joking around and pulling their legs. That all changed when they were filling out the forms to claim the prize. “Now we’re not just dreaming anymore,” she said.
Mr. Chua is not a stranger to the Lotto Max jackpot draw
This was not John’s first time trying his luck with the lottery because he is actually a regular lottery player. When in November buying tickets from retail stores was prohibited due to health and safety measures and restrictions, John resorted to buying his lottery tickets on PlayNow.com. When he first checked his ticket, he said that there was no indication that he had won the January 22, 2020, Lotto MAX draw, and even when the online site sent him an email saying he’d won, he thought it was a free play. He was in disbelief when he realized that he had in fact won the entire windfall and the largest ever jackpot in Manitoba history. Thanks to the numbers 11, 21, 23, 25, 28, 41, and the bonus number 43, Mr. Chua and his family can forget about the financial crisis. Angie Chua described it as “a huge blessing” because they “just needed a little bit and we got a lot.”
The new multi-millionaire went to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation’s office in Winnipeg to collect his cheque and took with him his wife Jhoana, his mother Angie, and his uncle Ben Lagman, with whom he is going to share his prize. John and Jhoana’s plans for this huge sum include buying a bigger house for their growing family. As for the rest of the money, it’s such a mind-blowing sum that the family said they need to take some time to decide on what to do with the money.

Although the whopping sum has Mr. Chua set for life, he insisted that he will still continue playing the lottery since it’s just something he loves to do. Since retail sales are still frozen, lottery enthusiasts like John Chua have been finding online offerings at PlayNow.com, lottery subscriptions and lottery ticket orders quite useful to still be able to participate in the game.
The first month of the year has made another Canadian family very happy, putting their financial worries to rest. 57-year-old Deng Pravatoudom from Toronto was the holder of the winning ticket of the Lotto 6/49 CA$60 million jackpot. Upon collecting her winnings, Ms. Deng revealed that she got the numbers from her husband, who saw them in his sleep almost 20 years ago. Just like this woman from Toronto, many lottery players keep choosing the same meaningful numbers, in the hopes that one day, their dreams too will come true.
