The Lotto Max winner is a senior Vancouver resident who claimed a CA$1 million prize. Lottery games are loved and rated highly all throughout the country. Apart from the thrill of the game, lotteries have changed the lives of many Canadians, winning them big fortunes overnight. This was also the experience for the latest Canadian millionaire.

Lottery games in the province are overseen by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. The Crown corporation has always sought to keep games and lotteries innovative and fresh for its residents and can boast of having very generous rewards. In fact, in 2020, the BCLC gave out around CA$99 million to Lotto Max winners.

The lucky ticket holder who will no longer face any financial difficulties is Yee Mon Gin, who became a millionaire after his ticket was drawn on October 30, 2020. Mr. Gin was a regular ticket buyer but never really expected to win such a huge amount. When he found out that he had won, Mr. Gin said that he couldn’t think of anything and “was in shock”. The 85-year-old was at the 88 Supermarket on Victoria Drive when he decided to check his ticket, the same place where he had purchased it from.

Mr. Gin quickly told the news to his son, who shared his father’s excitement. Mr. Gin also said that he loves cruises and plans on going on another one as soon as it is safe to do so. He also plans on sharing his prize with his family and continues enjoying life with them. In response to the win, Mr. Gin commented, “I’m 85 years old and there’s nothing that I need. I’m very happy.”

2021 might have just started, but fate has already smiled upon quite a number of Canadians when it comes to the lottery. Another recent millionaire is 57-year-old Brian Woodcox, who also won CA$1 million, this time from the Lotto 6/49 game. Just like a lot of lottery enthusiasts, Mr. Woodcox chooses numbers that have meaning to him – he said that he bases the lottery numbers on family members’ birthdays and anniversaries. On November 18, 2020, these numbers brought him luck as they were drawn as the winning ones.

Mr. Woodcox found out that he was the owner of the winning ticket after scanning it on the OLG Lottery application. The Bancroft resident shared the news with his mother, and they both couldn’t believe the news. Just like Mr. Gin, Mr. Woodcox will also be sharing his good fortune with his family, who he said deserve it. He will also be buying himself a new TV and some furniture.

The prizes keep getting bigger, as Langley resident Eileen Bevis won the amazing sum of CA$4 million. Ms. Bevis is definitely one lucky woman as she almost didn’t purchase the Lotto 6/49 lottery ticket which later made her a multimillionaire. Ms. Bevis is going to invest some of the money won, and generously, she is also going to donate some of it to cancer research organizations and animal welfare.

Perhaps the biggest winner of all is Leslie Hasman, who won a whopping CA$9.3 million. The win was made all the more special as it happened on the New Year’s Eve Lotto 6/49 lottery draw. Mr. Hasman was stunned when he discovered how much he had won and had to reach for his glasses as he thought he was seeing zeros. Mr. Hasman plans to take his family on vacation to Hawaii when it’s safe to travel and plans on buying a barbecue. He is also going to donate some of his prize money to hospitals in the Lower Mainland.
