A Weekend of Finals

A Weekend of Finals

Lots of drama for Scotland this week as Scotland hosts both the William Hill Scottish cup final and the Scottish Premiership final. The final for the FA Cup also took place this weekend and the women are out in force for their Super League.

Finishing the FA Cup

Arsenal and Chelsea faced off for the FA Cup final this past Saturday. In an exciting and hard fought game, Arsenal finally triumphed in a 2 – 1 victory over Chelsea. This makes it the seventh victory in the FA Cup for Arsene Wenger. Just four minutes into the game, Arsenal took the lead thanks to the boot of Alexis Sanchez. The gap became harder for Chelsea to close when in the second half Victor Moses was sent off leaving the Chelsea side to play the rest of the match with just ten men. Diego Costa raised hopes of a possible comeback with just fourteen minutes to go but it was not to be. With three minutes left, Arsenal scored the final goal of the game thanks to a spot on header from Ramsay. The Premier League champions were bested this time but it was a well-deserved win for the Gunners.

Scottish Drama

Firstly Celtic was up against Aberdeen for the Scottish Cup and succeeded to claim a domestic triple as they beat Aberdeen 2 – 1. Within the first ten minutes Aberdeen was ahead but just two minutes later Celtic were able to equalize. An intense, edge-of-the-seat game, it ended with Celtic not only winning the Cup for the first time in 4 years but also the first team to claim the treble unbeaten.

A second big day for Scotland occurred on Sunday with the Scottish Premiership final. In the second leg Dundee United were anxious to do better than the first leg draw against Hamilton Academicals. However it was not to be and it was Hamilton that triumphed with a 1 – nil victory.

A Woman’s World

Three exciting games played out this Sunday. Manchester City losing out to Arsenal ladies in a 1 – nil loss. This was followed by Reading Women and Birmingham City ladies in an intense one all draw. The last ladies game this week was Yeovil Town against the Sunderland ladies culminating with the latter triumphing with a 1 – 2 victory.

The Week Ahead

This week has more from the Airtricity Premier division and also the Sky Bet Championship. Later in the week there is more from the Women’s Super League and the weekend brings the drama of the highly anticipated Juventus v real Madrid game for the UEFA Champions League final.
