Big Changes for Manchester United?19th Jun 2017 |
The biggest news stories in British football these days are related to transfers, rumours and managerial changes in the clubs. Which clubs will strengthen the most ahead of the new season?
Ronaldo to Manchester United?
There are very strong reports that Cristiano Ronaldo, who some consider to be the best player of all time, is unhappy at Real Madrid. There are many rumours claiming that he is leaving the Spanish capital, and the most trustworthy rumour links him strongly to Manchester United. His feelings for the club are indisputable, as is his relationship with Jose Mourinho. If Manchester United is to sign him he will probably become one of the most expensive players of all times. Zlatan and Ronaldo up front – that sounds like a team that might win some trophies doesn’t it? The reports are suggesting that Ronaldo might cost them 183 million Euros plus David de Gea. This means that the Red Devils might target AC Milan’s 18-year-old super object Gianluigi Calciomercato as his successor.
Is Liverpool Strengthening Their Offensive Line?
It is not only the team at Old Trafford that are aiming for a good season. Liverpool is said to be willing to break their transfer fee record by signing Dortmund’s Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. If both of these reports turn out to become reality, the Premier League will be an interesting collection of great offensive teams next season.
Who will lead Chelsea?
It should go without saying that Antonio Conte will lead Chelsea next season. Their victory in the Premier League last season was so clear that the league lost all real excitement in the battle for 1st place before New Year’s Eve. But he is said to be engaged in a dispute with the board of the club right now, and this might well lead to his resignation. If this is to happen, it should happen fast. A new manager should be placed into position early in the pre-season so he can strengthen the team according to his philosophy. It is never a good idea to change manager right before Premier League kicks off. The best example of this might be when Martin O’Neill, the current manager of Ireland, resigned from Aston Villa on the 9th of August 2010. That was the start of a long and difficult journey that took the club to where they are today. Louis Enrique is reported to be among the most wanted men to replace Conte in Chelsea.
Champions League Qualifiers
The draws for the Champions League qualification went down today. Among the teams to be drawn were Celtic and the Irish champions Dundalk. While Celtic was seeded, Dundalk was unseeded. This of course, gave them quite different opponents. The Irish team will be travelling to Trondheim, the second largest city in Norway, to face Rosenborg – by far the most successful Norwegian football team. The boys from Glasgow will be travelling either to Belfast or to San Marino, depending on the results between Linfield and La Fiorita. Needless to say, Celtic coming to Belfast will be a big event over there, and security will need to be tight if it is to happen.
