Follow the Three Lions to Russia!

Follow the Three Lions to Russia!

Ah, England at the World Cup, where do we begin…? Recent history has not been the greatest, to say the least.

Maybe you’ve done your best to forget the abomination against Germany back in 2010 accompanied by the drone of the Vuvuzelas. Or the meaningless final group game against Costa Rica in their previous World Cup outing in Brazil 4 years ago. Thanks Roy!

Well, time has moved on and England have produced another lacklustre, yet defeatless, qualifying campaign to book their spot in Russia this June. So, here we go again, the 3 Lions heading into another World Cup with low expectations and lingering injury worries.

Taking a closer look at England’s Group G buddies we find them scheduled to play Belgium, Tunisia and Panama for a spot in the last 16. Their first match on the 18th June sees England face off against a Tunisia side who topped their qualifying group and are coming to their 5th World Cup finals.

Next up is Panama who have qualified for their first ever World Cup having finished just 1 point ahead of the USA in their CONCACAF qualifying group.

Finally, England will play their final Group G encounter against Belgium at a brand new stadium in the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad. Squeezed between Poland and Lithuania this spot is known as Oktyabrsky Island.

How will the 3 Lions fair against a side which includes Premier League stars like Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard? We’ll just have to wait until June 28th, at the business end of the World Cup group stages, to see if England will be sent packing for the plane home or roar through to the final 16.

Or, just maybe, you have confidence in the England squad and truly believe that the Southgate era will bring the trophy home. Some fans are already backing the 3 Lions with a cheeky bet for them to win the World Cup. Odds are currently hovering around the 16/1 mark on the lads banishing the ghosts of 1966!
