The SuperLenny speedster has been at it again. Marit Strømøy, competing in the F1 H2O World Championship did a fine race in Abu Dhabi
Marit Strømøy excelled in the Qualifier
Marit Strømøy and her team had a great qualifier in Abu Dhabi this weekend and qualified 2nd, only 0,06 second behind Philippe Chiappe who took pole Position.
It was a great achievement and already on the open practice, you could see that Marit was gonna be fast.
– This was our best qualifying since 2011 and we are very happy with this result although a pole would taste even better, says Marit from Abu Dhabi.
In Q1, Marit quickly set a good lap, earning a 3rd position before the Q2 that turned out to be a real nail biter. Q2 was very thrilling and 8-9 top drivers were battling it out for the top 6 spots, all the way to the end. With only minutes to go, it looked like Marit was out of the run, but then she had a great lap, earning her a 5th spot in Q2.
When the top 6 drivers got two laps each on their own on the circuit, Marit’s boat showed it’s true potential and Marit climbed up to the 2nd position, just behind the defending World Champion Philippe Chiappe, only 0.06 second divided Philippe from Marit.
When the race started, Marit had a great start off the dock and turned second at the first buoy, only a boat length after Chiappe. Then, a big accident occurred further down in the second corner and the race was yellow flagged. In the restart, Carella was gaining on Marit, but Marit managed to battle it out and keep the second spot. Through out the whole race, Chiappe has just about 2-4 seconds on Marit and it was a well fought fight over 52 laps.
Chiappe held the lead from start to finish, with Marit Strømøy just behind. She finished only 2.5 second behind on 2nd place in the 45 minute long race.
– I´m very happy for this result. My team and my boat have been working fantastically all weekend, said Marit Strømøy.
The next race
The next race for Team Marit Strømøy Racing is already this week, as Marit is heading to Sharjah, a well known circuit to Marit as she won her first F1 race there two years ago.
