Yesterday’s Fixtures – 25. June

Not many goals to report about from yesterday’s matches, but Shaquiri’s goal against Poland was worth at least five goals aesthetically. A great overhead kick from the end line of the box ended up behind Fabianski. Earlier in the game, Jakub “Kuba” Blaszczykowski had scored for Poland, and the game went to penalties. Arsenal’s new signing Granit Xhaka has had a great championship so far, but he was the only one to miss a penalty. Poland is moving on.

We had a British derby in Wales-N. Ireland. Poor Gareth McAuley experienced the worst thing a footballer can experience in that game. He scored an own goal, which turned out to be the only goal of the match. First timer Wales will now face Hungary or Belgium in the quarter finals. I think they can beat both of them.

We were expecting some good attacking football in Croatia-Portugal, but we did not get it. I do not understand why Croatia was so careful. If they had dared to, I think they would have finished the game before the extra halves. But they did not, and Portugal managed to score with only four minutes left. They will now face Poland.
