Yesterday’s fixtures – Sunday 12. June13th Jun 2016 |
We are still waiting for the first real surprise to hit us in this championship. All results so far have been quite as expected, but we’ve seen some surprises in terms of how the teams are looking. Although Ukraine lost to Germany, they played surprisingly well at times. If they keep this up they will probably take the important second place in the group, ahead of Poland. Neither Poland nor Northern Ireland impressed too much in the games between them, but there’s no doubt that Poland deserved the win. The next game against Germany will be a very interesting game between two fierce rivals, and Germany can’t do the kind of defensive mistakes they did yesterday when they’re facing Robert Lewandowski. Judging by today’s games it seems very unlikely that Northern Ireland will manage to take a single point in this championship.
If Ukraine looked better than the result says, the opposite is the case for Turkey. It didn’t look like they had fully understood that they were playing in the European Championship. Croatia only won 1-0, but they had an enormous amount of chances that they missed. Two shots in the bar, one miss on a semi-open goal and one chance where they would’ve scored if the Croatian player had a bigger boot. Turkey need to pull themselves together and Croatia need to follow through on their chances.
