Betting on The Premier League

Betting on The Premier League

For many, the Premier League is the biggest club football competition in the world; it’s certainly the most popular, with more than four billion people around the globe tuning in.

Millions bet on the English top-flight every week too, and by reading this guide to betting on the Premier League, you will be able to place a bet at one of SuperLenny’s top sportsbooks!

Premier League betting can be broken down into two main categories: outright and match betting.

Outright betting is where you make your selections based on the final league table. If you think Liverpool are going to win the title, you can bet on them in the ‘outright winner’ market. You can also place a wager on a top-four finish, top/bottom half finish, relegation, the league’s top goalscorer and lots of other markets.

As for match betting, you can bet on who you think will win in the 1-X-2 market, as well having a flutter on both teams to score, over/under 2.5 goals, correct score, first/anytime goalscorer, cards and corners, and loads more.

The numbers you see on a betting card are the odds, which the bookmakers use to describe how they see a particular match going.

The smaller the fraction, the more likely the bookies believe that event is to occur.

So, for example, by making Manchester City their 8/11 favourites in the Premier League winner market, the bookmakers are saying that there is a 57.9% chance that Pep Guardiola’s men will indeed get their hands on the trophy.

The same fractions apply to match betting, for example:

Chelsea (5/2), Liverpool (11/10), Draw (12/5)

Since the Premier League began in 1992, there have been only six different teams to get their hands on the silverware.

Manchester clubs United (13), and City (4) are the two most decorated champions, alongside Chelsea (5), Arsenal (3) and Blackburn Rovers (1).

The sixth, Leicester City, produced one of the greatest ever betting moments when they won the 2015/16 title at odds of 5000/1!

In the 2018/19 season, the home team won 48% of all Premier League matches, with the away team triumphing in 34% and the remaining 18%.

There were plenty of goals too, as bets with both teams to score would have landed in 51% of matches, with three or more goals being scored in 54% of games.

The most common scoreline was a 2-0 home win (12%), followed by a 2-1 away win (9%) and then 1-1, 2-1 and 1-0, which all occurred in 8% of encounters.

Placing a bet online is easy: find the market or match you want to bet on, click on the odds displayed for that selection, add your stake and click bet.

How do you place bets that actually win? Well, that’s the magic question!

Give yourself the best chance by doing your homework, looking at current form, team news, home/away results and head-to-head records.

If you plan on becoming a Premier League punter, here are five top tips to consider:

  1. Explore all of the Premier League betting markets available
  2. Only place ‘value’ bets – where the implied probability of the odds is accurate
  3. Remember in-play betting if you are watching a match
  4. Research team news and form before placing bets
  5. Never chase your losses!
