Highest RTP Slots

Everyone playing at an online casino wants to give themselves the best chance of winning, and in the case of slots there’s a built-in cheat code to help you understand which games give you the best shot: the RTP.

The RTP or Return to Player is a quick guide to how much value is in a slot. There’s plenty more that goes into understanding how slots pay out – including volatility and strategy, which we’re going to cover on this page – but RTP gives you a lot of information in just a single figure.

As a rule of thumb, you should always aim to play the highest RTP slots. It gives you the best chance of winning, and in the longer run even small differences in RTP can translate into significant differences in profit.

The ultimate High RTP guide

This page is your ultimate guide to the highest RTP slots available in the UK.

First up, we’re going to get into the weeds on RTP: how it works, why you should care, and how it should impact your decisions.

What is RTP?

What are RTPs

RTP stands for Return to Player and it refers to how much a slot pays out in relation to the total amount bet. It is expressed in a percentage, with online slots typically ranging anywhere from 85%-99% in RTP.

An RTP of 100% would mean that every penny that is bet on the slot is paid out over time. It would also mean that the casino doesn’t make any money – which is why slots with an RTP of 100% basically don’t exist.

RTP has an inverse relationship with the house edge, which is how we describe the in-built advantage that means the casino or house always makes money in the long run.

For example, an RTP of 97.5% means that 97.5% of all bets end up getting paid out as winnings, which means there is a house edge of 2.5%. An RTP of 90% means there is a house edge of 10%, and so on.

Low, Medium and High RTP

Examples of Low, Medium and High RTPs

The average RTP of online slots has changed a lot over time, and the trend in general has been towards slots’ RTPs getting higher – which is good news for us.

Today, we can pinpoint the average RTP of online slots at around 95-96%. If you’re playing a game in this region, you know you’re getting reasonable value.

Anything under that would be considered low RTP, with games getting significantly less valuable the further the RTP drops. Avoid anything with RTP in the low 90’s or lower.

Anything above 96% can be considered high RTP, and a great choice of game to play.

Understanding RTP

How is RTP in slots calculated?

So, we know an RTP of 98% means that the game pays out 98% of its bets in winnings. Does that mean that every spin will result in a payout worth 98% of your bet? Or that the first 98 spins lose, followed by spins 99 and 100 paying out?

No. It’s important to appreciate that RTP refers to the projected payout of a game over a long period of time. Even a slot with an RTP of 100% won’t pay out every time.

The result of every spin on an online slot is determined by a piece of software called a Random Number Generator, and the RTP figure is typically calculated based on millions of simulated spins.

The higher the RTP, the more money the slot pays out on average in the long run. It’s still no guarantee of winning, but higher RTPs help make the edge a little more favourable to players – even if they are never going to flip it entirely.

The top casino software designers publish the RTP of the games they produce, and they are also independently verified by testing companies like eCogra labs. You can normally find the RTP of a slot either listed beside it in the lobby of the casino, or if you click the in-game information / settings button. You can also search for it independently of the casino.

RTP tells us how much a slot pays out in the long run, but it doesn’t give any indication about the regularity of those payouts, when you might expect them and how big or small each one is. For that kind of thing, you need to look at slot volatility.

RTP and Volatility

RTP and Strategy

Another important concept to understand with RTP is that you can change it based on how you play the game. Or, to put it another way, there is no strategy that gives you a better chance of winning at slots. Instead, the RTP is normally fixed.

That’s not to say you shouldn’t use planning and strategy for things like bankroll management and playing time, but you won’t be able to improve your chances of winning.

There can be occasional exceptions to this rule, notably in the case of games that have option side bets or pay-in bonus games. Deciding to play or not can affect the overall RTP of the game, but the software provider normally gives this info in the slot description.

RTP and Other Games

Game House edge
European Roulette 2.7%
American Roulette 5.26%
Blackjack Depending on your decision making

Should I Always Choose High RTP Slots?

The simple answer to this is: if you want to give yourself the best chance of winning, then yes. Higher RTP slots simply mean more payouts, on average, in the long run. It’s not a guarantee of anything, but in purely mathematical terms it’s better to choose a 98% RTP slot than a 97% one.

That said, playing online slots is not only about winning and it’s certainly not a smart way to try to earn money. Online gambling is fun first and foremost, and you should choose the games that you enjoy the most. Sometimes that might mean trading off a little in RTP, and that’s no bad thing. The key is to enjoy yourself.

Starburst

We’re starting with a stone cold classic, which conveniently also has a very solid RTP of 96.09% – just above average. Starburst has a classic feel, with 5 reels and 10 paylines which are paid out from both left to right and right to left. The symbols are all shiny gems, and when you hit a combination they explode with effects like a diamond in the sun. There are also respins, scatter and wilds to contend with, and a minimum bet of 0.10.

Starburst is one of the truly iconic games in the world of online gambling. It’s not the most complicated game, but its beauty lies in its simplicity. It’s also fairly low volatility, making it a great choice for newbies.

Mega Joker

Mega Joker is another NetEnt slot, and it’s packing an incredible RTP of 99.1%. The format is very interesting, with the slot taking the form of an old school Vegas style slot machine with separate reels on the bottom and the top. The base game involves the bottom reels only. Whenever you hit winning combinations, you’ll charge up the Supermeter and unlock the upper most reels –  basically like a respin bonus mode.

Mega Joker feels both retro and innovative. The analogue sounds, 3 reels and fruit symbols are pure vintage and 99% RTP can’t really be beaten.

Blood Suckers

Blood Suckers is a low volaitlity slot with one of the best RTP ratings of 98% – meaning you can expect a nice constant flow of payouts as you play. The game has 25 fixed paylines and some very spooky symbols on the reels: creepy vampires, sorcerers and zombies.

Landing three hammer and sickle symbols triggers the free spin bonus game, and you can also unlock a separate free spin bonus when you hit the zombie bride. There’s a multiplier thrown in too.

Blood Suckers is one of those slots that feels like it has a whole backstory behind its characters, and another great slot from NetEnt.

Jackpot 6000

Jackpot 6000 is all about paying tribute to the classic slots that have gone before – not many people will know it, but this game is actually a reference to a classic Norwegian physical slot called Jackpot 6000. The game feels a little similar to Mega Joker which we talked about above, both in terms of gameplay and style.

This is a rare example of a game where you can improve your RTP depending on how you play. You can either play in regular or Supermeter mode. The regular game has a fixed RTP of 95%, while that rises to 98.9% in Supermeter mode, where you can also hit the max payout of 6,000x.

1429 Uncharted Seas

1429 Uncharted Seas was designed by a slightly lesser known provider called Thunderkick, and it comes with an excellent RTP of 98.5%. It’s got a very interesting and unique theme: the age of discovery and seafaring exploration. The 5 reel slot has 25 betways, and looks like a yellowing old map of the seven seas.

The symbols are great. The creative depictions of mysterious sea creatures and cartographical icons are the base symbols, while the Ship symbol is wild. When it lands, it expands to fill the entire reel. There is also a free spin bonus game, which can unlock up to 50 free spins per spin.

Immortal Romance

Ah Microgaming. The Isle of Man based company is one of the biggest names in online gambling, and has been creating iconic slots for the best part of 30 years now. Immortal Romance is one of its more popular titles, and comes with an RTP just a shade under 97%. Immortal Romance is rated as high volatility from Microgaming, despite its 243 paylines.

It’s by no means uncommon for software providers to take inspiration from popular culture for their themes, and Immortal Romance bears more than a passing resemblance to the iconic Twilight franchise. If moody vampires and gothic symbols are your thing, you’ll love it.

Himalayas Roof of The World Slot

This game from Barcrest has a great and original concept: it’s specifically themed around the top of the Himalayas with some Nepalese culture thrown in for good measure. The symbols represent some of the wild animals to be found in that part of the world – soaring eagles and prowling tigers – and the RTP is 97.75%.

With 100 winning lines, and a range of stacked symbols, there are plenty of ways to win on Himalayas Roof of The World Slot. The Snow Slide Bonus feature is excellent too: the screen is engulfed in an avalanche of snow, which leaves behind up to 50 Wilds when it clears.

Starmania

Starmania from NextGen is a simple and colourful game, with ten paylines and an RTP of 97.87%. The game is set in outer space, with the reels floating amongst the stars and populated by gem-style symbols. The design work is simple but very pretty, with shooting stars and vivid colours.

You can be from as little as 0.10 on the ten fixed paylines. When you hit three scatter symbols you’ll trigger the free spin mode, where extra wilds are added to the reels. Starmania is also on the lower volatility side of things, making it a nice relaxing choice.

Triple Bar

Triple Bar comes from 1X2gaming and is just about as simple a slot as they come. We’re dealing with a classic 3 reel slot, and just a single winning payline. That’s right, you simply need to line up three symbols in the centre of the reels to win – old school style.

The size of your payout depends on which symbols you match up, with the max payout at 40x your bet. The RTP is 98.15% – very impressive – and the volatility is rated as medium.

The symbols are all variations of the classic BAR icons, and the gold and black colour scheme is elegant and minimalist. Triple Bar is certainly not the most complicated slot out there, and may feel a little repetitive to some players – but it’s a true throwback to the glory days of slots.

Marching Legions

Marching Legion from Relax Gaming has an RTP of 98.12%. It has the feel of a strategy board game or video game, with squadrons of soldiers marching solidly across a grid, along with symbols right out of the old days of the Roman Empire. It has a fun, cartoonish feel, with high volatility and an impressive max sin of 10,000x your bet.

There are 243 paylines and lots of little fun touches to the game, including legionnaire symbols that nudge into position when you land 2 or more partial stacks. The Matching Respins feature is fun too, where the symbols become sticky and the reels automatically spin again.

Big Bounty Bill

Big Bounty Bill from Kalmba games is a very volatile slot with 1024 ways to win. This is a Western style slot, with the upper half of the grid frozen in the base game. You can unlock the frozen symbols by landing Plasma Gun symbols, which fire pot shots above whenever they appear. Each of the frozen spaces has a corresponding number of shots required to unlock them.

Big Bounty Bill has a great free spins bonus called the Hyper Bonus, which gets triggered by landing three scatters. Alternatively, you can buy into the bonus game directly for a premium. You can choose between buying in for 8, 15, 20 and 25 free spins, which can get retriggered during the game too.

Leprechaun Riches

Play Leprechaun from PG Soft has spawned a number of sequels, but we’re sticking with the original here. At 97.35% RTP and medium volatility, this is a good value slot. The max payout is an incredible 100,000x, with some fun bonus features too.

The symbols and general design are nothing too special, and the classic theme of Irish Luck is carried off pretty well. The scatter symbol is a Pot of Gold, and landing four of them will trigger 15 free spins. There’s also a cascading win multiplier, which can really rack up the value when you get on a roll.

Classic Fruits

The clue is in the name with this slot from 1X2gaming. Classic Fruit is an old school fruit machine, featuring vivid graphics and simple, familiar gameplay. There are 5 winning lines on the 3×3 grid, which is populated by iconic symbols like cherries, 7’s and BARs. The top prize of 700x is good, and you can spin the reels for as little as 0.05.

The graphics when you hit a win are a nice touch too, with gold coins cascading down the screen.

All in all, Classic Fruits is simple and timeless. If you asked someone who doesn’t know much about online gambling to close their eyes and picture a slot, chances are they’d picture Classic Fruit.

Book of 99

Book of 99 is another well named slot: it’s packing an incredible RTP of 99%, just about as good as you can find at UK casinos. The game is very fun too, loosely based around the wanderings of Greek hero Odysseus on his way home from the Trojan War. Anyone familiar with that story will recognise the symbols, including the fearsome cyclops and mysterious enchantress.

The Wild Collection Meter, which you can see at the side of the grid, is a fun feature. Every time you hit a wild the metre – which is in the shape of a ship making its way home – increases. When the metre reaches 99, a free spin bonus game is triggered. If you’re concerned that 99 is a lot of wilds to hit, don’t worry. You can also trigger the bonus by landing 3 on the same spin.

Machina

Machina is a volatile slot set in what feels like a dystopian future, with cloaked warriors and robots populating the six reels. The symbols can land in a variety of sizes, meaning the number of winning betways changes up on every spin. You can see how many winning lines there are via the counter at the top of the screen.

Machina is another Kalamba slot which features a Hyper Bonus. Once again, you can wait to trigger the bonus by hitting 3 or more bonus symbols in the regular game or buy into the game directly – which costs a premium. You can re-trigger additional spins in the bonus game too.

Crystal Cavern

Crystal Cavern from Karamba Games is set deep underground, with six reels filled with mysterious glowing gems, dimly lit lanterns and spotted mushrooms. The RTP is 97.72%, and the volatility is on the high side. There are 4096 ways to win, the payours depend on the level of Hyper Bet you choose at the start of a spin cycle.

There are three Hyper Bet levels, which basically means you pay a little more to trigger a multiplier on your wins. Once you set your level, you can’t change it for an entire spin cycle – which lasts 10 spins.

During the cycle you can also collect Pink Orbs, and when you get enough to fill the metre you’ll trigger the free spin bonus. If your cycle ends without filling the metre however, it resets.

Caribbean Anne

Caribbean Anne is yet another from Karamba Games, and it’s packing a great RTP of 97.83%. The titular character is a pirate who lurks around the warm Caribbean seas, and also appears as a wild multiplier on the reels, along with two other wilds.

Caribbean Anne features the same Hyper Bet format as our previous slot, with a little tweak. The game still moves in cycles of 10 spins, but in this case you can change your Hyper Bet level mid cycle if you want, and it will be saved in position if you return to your original level later. There are also four levels instead of 3.

Finally, like many Karamba Games, there is a free spin bonus round which you can buy directly into for a premium. All in all, a fun game with a lot going on.

Psycho Candies

Psycho Candies is clearly a bit of a nod to the Candy Crush, the classic video game that exploded in popularity on mobiles in the last decade or so. The six reels are filled with a variety of fun candy characters, each one with a different whimsical personality. Rather than traditional winning lines, the game pays out by matching up clusters of 7 or more symbols – similar to hitting combos in Candy Crush.

The RTP of 97.5% is great, and there are three separate bonus games too. One is a pick’em style game, triggered by hitting Jelly symbols. There’s a Bomb, which explodes on the reels to create a cascade. And finally, you can fill up one of the caudron metres at the top of the screen to fight a large Psycho Candy and get a chance to spin the Jackpot Wheel.

Medusa 2 Jackpot

This game from NextGen has a great RTP of 97.42% and 243 ways to win. It’s a pretty simple design, with a 5×3 grid filled with some interesting ancient Greek looking symbols. The Medusa symbol is wild and can appear stacked over an entire reel. Hitting three scatter triggers 10 free spins, during which reels can lock to help you hit combinations.

This isn’t the most innovative slot, but it’s fun, good value and easy to appreciate.

Mystery Museum

Mystery Museum from Push Gaming has a juicy RTP of 96.56% which can rise to over 97% in the bonus game, which we’ll get to. There are five reels populated with various museum artefacts, including one wild Mystery symbol which can land stacked over an entire reel. There are just ten paylines, and the slot is on the volatile side.

Any winnings over 2x your bet qualify for the Power Gamble feature, where you can risk your winnings for a higher payout or to qualify for a bonus game. Basically, to maximise your RTP in this game, you should always choose the Power Gamble feature. It’s a good thing too, because it’s a fun addition to a great game.

Dark King: Forbidden Riches

Dark King comes from NetEnt, and with its 96.06% RTP it’s not the highest in our list but still a great option for good value slots. The theme feels somewhere between Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings, and the symbols are basically a checklist of fantasy icons. Undead King? Check. Magic Swords? Check. Fiery Daemons? Check? There are 20 paylines and impressive 3D animations when you hit them.

Dark King has some great bonus features, including a free spin bonus game when you hit 3 scatters. Again, the animations in the bonus game are very cool and the slot just looks great in general. There are also sticky wilds in the mix, which are always a welcome addition.

Wild Orient

Wild Orient from Microgaming is a mostly simple game with some interesting innovations baked into the gameplay. With an RTP of 97.5%, medium variance and 243 paylines, Wild Orient is easy to appreciate and equally suited to beginners as more seasoned players.

The 5 reels are packed with exotic animals from the Far East – sleek pandas, mighty elephants and ferocious tigers. The animals all look great, designed with an impressive graphic novel realism. There are also playing cards, which are lower value symbols and an overgrown Temple, which is the scatter.

Wild Orient’s most interesting feature is the ability to Respin any of the reels after a spin. Each reel has a different price for this feature, which are automatically generated depending on the other symbols shown on the reels and the likelihood of hitting a win. It’s a fun added way to gamble.

Money Cart 2

This sequel from Relax Gaming has an excellent RTP of 98% but beware: it’s also very high variance. Fans of the original game will quickly recognize what’s going on with this reedition. With Money Cart 2, the regular gameplay now consists of the bonus game from the first game.

The 5×4 grid consists of mostly empty spaces, and when you spin the reels bonus symbols randomly appear. You need to hit three of them to trigger the respins bonus feature, which is when the fun starts.

The bonus symbols will randomly reveal a number of coins as a prize, with both high and low value bonuses out there. Any time you reveal another symbol during your free spins, you’ll retrigger some more.

And that’s not all. There are also a variety of character symbols you can hit – the Payer, the Collector, the Necromancer and the Sniper – each of which trigger additional multipliers and other coin bonuses.

Money Cart 2 can be a little frustrating while you wait to trigger the bonus, but once you do you’re basically guaranteed a big payout.

Fruit Warp

Fruit Warp from Thunderstick has an RTP of 97%, and it’s one of the most visually impressive slots out there. Rather than having visible reels, the 3D fruit symbols float around the screen in some mysterious realm. You win when 3 or more of the same symbols appear on screen at any time.

Thunderstick is very volatile, with an impressive max payout of 11,000x and a max bet of £100 per spin.

There are some fun bonuses on the cards too. Matching 4 symbols will trigger a re-spin, with the original winning symbols frozen in place. Then, if you match 5 symbols, you’ll trigger the Warp Metre, which hands out multipliers for every new matching symbol you hit.

Fruit Warp is a really unique game, and definitely one of the most interesting out there.

Pixies of the Forest 2

This is a sequel from IGT, who have done a great job of upgrading the original and adding some excellent new touches. The RTP is sitting at 97%, and there are three separate progressive jackpots up for grabs.

The low value symbols are all playing cards while the higher value ones are different coloured pixies. The tumbling feature is still in play in the first game too. Any time you hit one of the 99 winning paylines the winning symbols will be removed to be replaced by new ones, so the wins can roll over.

If you hit 3 tumbling wins in a row the Wilds feature will be triggered, where two whole reels turn wild and stay that way until you hit another win. There is also a Pick’em style bonus game, where you get to choose one from three Pixie Queens to reveal a number of free spins.

Halloween Fortune

Halloween Fortune from Playtech has an RTP of just over 97%. It’s a spooky slot, based around 3 different witches who flit around the reels with some impressive animations whenever you hit a winning line. There are 20 paylines and an excellent max win of 10,000x your bet.

The main bonus in Halloween Fortune is a game called Witches’ Brew. It gets triggered when you land two of the special bonus symbols – the Cauldron – on reels 1 and 5 in the same spin. You’ll receive between 3-20 free spins, and also get to randomly choose a multiplier from 6 magic potion bottles. You can re-trigger more spins by hitting more Cauldrons during the bonus.

Halloween Fortune is fun and simple, and fairly low volatility which makes it a good choice for beginners.

Lucha Rumble

Lucha Rumble is all about the world of Mexican Lucha Libre wrestling, so it makes sense that software provider Eyecon has stuffed the game full of classic colourful Mexican symbols – flaming tequila bottles, jewelled day-of-the-dead skulls and piñatas. The game has an RTP of 97.07% and is very volatile, meaning you might be spinning the reels for a while before you hit a win.

There are lots of fun bonuses in Lucha Rumble. Wilds can appear randomly on reels 2,3 and 4 and arrive with a 2x or 3x multiplier attached. There’s a special gold symbol which pays out instant prizes whenever it lands. If you hit 3, 4 or 5 scatters you’ll automatically trigger 15, 20 or 25 free spins. The free spin bonus also comes with some great wrestling animations.

Overall, there’s a lot going on in Lucha Rumble, and it’s some of the best design work you’re likely to see.

Secrets of Atlantis

Secrets of Atlantis from NetEnt looks great. The game is set deep in the underwater kingdom, with artfully rendered symbols of the ocean which can appear in a variety of sizes on the 5 reels. The wild is a huge four-symbol high Mermaid, and when she partially appears on the grid she’ll nudge into position to take up an entire reel.

Some symbols also appear with a kind of coral halo behind them. If this effect covers the entire three reels a special bonus mode is triggered, where reels 3,4 and 5 turn into one giant reel, which lands with Colossal Symbols which make it easier to hit winning lines.

Secrets of Atlantis is medium volatility, and its 40 winning lines pay out in both directions.

Cricket Star

Sometimes, from a value perspective, the best slots are the most niche ones, and Cricket Star is the perfect example of that. This slot from Microgaming is basically essential if you’re a Cricket fan, and a great crash course on the game if not.

The soundscape for this slot is perfect – the cheers of the crowd and thwack of the ball really recreate the experience of tense test match under the lights.

The gameplay is fairly simple. We’ve got a 5 reel, 97% RTP slot filled up with different cricket players as symbols, as well as the ref and supporters. Thanks to the Rolling Reels feature, any time you hit one of the 243 paylines, the winning symbols disappear to be replaced by new ones. There are also stacked wilds that randomly appear on the 3 of the reels.

Hitting 3 or more scatters triggers the free spins bonus, during which Rolling Reels also triggers a multiplier each time you hit additional winning lines.

Fortunes of Sparta

The game from Blueprint is packing major 300 vibes, along with a very healthy RTP of 97.04%. The detail on the design is fantastic, including the 3D warriors who leap out of the screen when you hit a winning combination. There are 20 different paylines, and a great max payout of 10,000x.

Any time you hit a winning line you might trigger the Spartan Streak feature. The entire middle reel becomes wild, and the remaining symbols are re-spun to potentially hit more combinations. The process keeps repeating until you stop hitting winning lines.

Hitting 3 or more scatter symbols unlocks Spartan Spins, with between 8-100 free spins available depending on how many scatters you hit. The central reel becomes wild again for Spartan Spins too, making it a very valuable bonus game.

The artistic work gone into Fortunes of Sparta is excellent. All the symbols – which include warriors mid-battle, ancient artefacts and plates of armour – are rendered like something from an Xbox game.

White Rabbit

White Rabbit takes its cues from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, so it makes sense that there are a lot of fun and weird features stuffed into this slot from Big Time Gaming. This is a Megaways slot, meaning the number of winning paylines varies with each spin, maxing out at a possible 248,832. The symbols – which will be familiar to anyone who has read the book – can appear in a variety of sizes on the five reels. Its RTP of 97.72% is excellent.

There are lots of special symbols to hit. The Caterpillar randomly turns up in the base game to add up to five wilds to the grid.  There’s a Bonus Wild symbol (separately to the regular wild) which contains a multiplier.

Hitting three of the White Rabbit scatter symbols triggers a free spin bonus. You can also buy into the bonus game separately, and the price gets smaller as you collect Gold Coins during the base game.

During the 15 free spins, landing an “Eat Me” Cupcake symbol extends the reel by two symbols, which helps the wins pile up even more.

Baron Samedi

Yggdrasil is one of the most creative and innovative software providers out there, and Baron Samedi is a great example of that. The game has 25 payline and an RTP of 97%.

The graphics in this game are incredible, with just the right amount of creepiness added to the Voodoo and Tarot style characters.

There are an amazing 36 separate bonuses you up for grabs in this game, which come in the form of collectable cards. Each one has a different bonus – multipliers, added wilds, guaranteed paylines and much more.

Any time you hit two or more scatter symbols you’ll trigger some Voodoo Respins, and also get to draw three cards to remain active for their duration.

As you play the game you’ll add more and more of the 36 cards to your collection, which are split up into separate categories. If you complete a collection in a category, you’ll receive an additional 3 free spins.

Baron Samedi is easily one of the most visually impressive games around at UK casinos.

Wild Gambler

Wild Gambler from Playtech is packing 20 paylines and an RTP of 97%. The game is set on the plains of the African savannah, with a cartoonish feel to the graphics and a pretty simple format.

The game has five reels, with a variety of animals and playing card symbols, as well as the wild Lion symbol. There is also a scatter Meerkat symbol, and when you hit 5 of them you’ll trigger 8 free spins. Any wilds on the reels will lock in place for the duration of the bonus too.

Wild Gambler’s most interesting feature is the Lock and Spin option. Any time wilds appear on the grid you have the option to have them locked in place on your next spin. You’ll have to pay extra to do so, and the stake varies depending on how many wilds there are. You can also customise the number of wilds you want to lock, or choose your own stake which will make the decision for you.

It’s a fun twist to experiment with, and doesn’t affect the overall RTP.

Casumo Casino

Doctor Electro

Doctor Electro is a high variance slot from Kalamba, with an RTP of 97.55% and 1024 paylines. This is another game with Kalamba’s trademark Hyperspin format, where the upper part of the reels are locked in the base game.

To unlock them and trigger Hyperspin mode, you need to hit 3 or more Expansion symbols, which look like supercharged batteries. As you collect additional Expansion symbols during the free spins, the reels can keep expanding and award additional free spins. When the reels are at their maximum length, there can be up to 16,807 ways to win.

You can also buy into the Hyperspin feature directly, with four different price points giving you different numbers of free spins.

The design work on Doctor Electro is excellent. Set in what looks like the laboratory of a mad scientist with weird pieces of equipment populating the reels. The animations are excellent too.

Operation Diamond Hunt

Kalamba are really coming through with the high RTPs these days, because Operation Diamond Hunt is another one from the Polish software provider. This time, we’re working with a 97.27% RTP.

The Hyperspin format is in play again, along with the option to buy directly into the bonus game. This time however, the reels look quite different.

The symmetrical grid is in a 3x4x5x5x4x3 shape, which is an interesting change of pace both for Kalamba and video slots in general. The theme is a diamond heist, and security lasers flit about the grid as if in a bank vault sensing for intruders.

Depending on how much you want to bet, some of the symbols will appear golden. Winning lines with golden symbols pay out more than regular ones. You can choose to have between 1 and 3 golden symbols using the Hyper Bet metre.

There are also two different Wilds, each with multipliers attached, and a diamond Scatter symbol which triggers free spins.

Hong Bao

Yet another Kalamba slot, Hong Bao has an impressive Eastern theme and an RTP of 97.5%. For once, the layout of the reels is fairly traditional and the design of the symbols, traditional Chinese symbols including the titular Hong Bao (meaning “red envelope”) look great set in the pastoral background.

We’ve got a Hyper Bet metre this time too, but with a twist. Here, the metre determines how many multiplier wilds will appear on the reels. There are five different levels to choose, making it considerably more likely you’ll win the more you choose.

As usual, three scatter symbols activates the free spin bonus, which you can also buy into separately. Hitting additional bonus symbols during the free spins triggers an extra spin.

Toki Time

Toki Time from Thunderkick is a bright and simple slot whose animation is not a million miles away from Adventure Time in terms of how the characters look. The 5×3 slot has 11 paylines and an RTP of 97.1%.

The symbols are all fun and sunshine vibes: rainbows, smiling farm animals, and golden stars. The expanded wild is a long necked goat which covers the entire reel when it appears. It also triggers a respin, and remains in place for the next spin, sticking until no more wins hit.

All wins at Toki Time are paid out both ways, which is a welcome boost since there are only 11 winning lines.

Things don’t really get much more simple than Toki Time, with no convoluted stories or confusing bonus games. Instead, it’s a nice medium volatility game designed to just sit back and enjoy.

9k Yeti

9k Yeti from 4ThePlayer, produced in partnership with Yggdrasil. Both are providers with top reputations for design, and unsurprisingly the game looks great. The RTP is bang on 97% and there are 4096 ways to win. The snow capped peaks of the Himalayas tower in the background, and the base symbols are pieces of mountaineering equipment and intrepid climbers.

The best part of the game is the Snow Storm Free Spin bonus, which is triggered when you hit at least 3 scatter symbols. You can trigger up to 88 free spins if you hit 6 scatters, which can also be retriggered as your spins play out. During the bonus, any time you hit a Yeti symbol and a Wild at the same time, all the symbols get shuffled and a losing spin is transformed into a win.

4ThePlayer has also created this slot particularly with mobile gaming in mind, so that it’s optimised whether you play portrait mode or landscape on your phone.

Quadruple DaVinci Diamond

This game from High 5 Games is bang on 97% RTP. You might have noticed by now that lots of slots have overlapping and recurring themes, but every now and again something turns up to surprise us. Quadruple DaVinci Diamond is something of a cross between a Renaissance art exhibition and a jewellery store, all set on a secluded island. We’re here for it.

There are 20 paylines and a good max payout of 30,000x. When you hit winning lines, the symbols disappear and new ones cascade in their place.

Quadruple DaVinci Diamond uses a feature it calls “Spin-crease”, which effectively means the more you bet the better chance you have of winning, because the symbols become worth double, triple or quadruple.

The highest RTP of 97% is only available when you have the maximum quadruple symbols enabled, meaning this game is probably better suited to medium-high rollers.

Elite of Evil

Elite of Evil from G.Games feels more like a Candy Crush style strategy game than a slot, and is guaranteed to be a big hit with anyone who likes those types of games. Its RTP of 97.5% is very impressive too.

There are no conventional winning lines in Elite of Evil. Instead, the wins are paid out in clusters, when three or more of the same symbols are touching each other on the reels. The twist here is that you need to touch the matching symbols to trigger a win, which means the winning symbols disappear to be replaced by new ones. Your turn doesn’t end until there are no more possible combinations.

There are 5 different basic symbols, as well as four special high value coin symbols and a bonus symbol. Hitting a combo of three or more of the bonus symbols triggers the bonus game, which is a pick’em style game which pays out cash values hidden in chests.

Finally, each base colour has a corresponding metre at the top of the screen, which charges up as you hit combinations. When it’s full, you get to attack the boss who hovers menacingly over the game, triggering a cash prize when you defeat them.

Temple of Medusa

Temple of Medusa is a pretty simple slot, with 96.4% RTP, 25 paylines and high volatility. The 5×3 grid is made up of low value playing card symbols as well as higher value symbols that show scenes from Greek legends: winged sandals, helmets and Pegasus.

The game might be straightforward, but All41 Studios have done a great job with the animations that appear whenever you land an expanding wild, which is a Medusa emblem. Snakes coil out from the wild, turning two more random symbols wild in the vicinity.

Wilds can even expand to the Scatter Symbols, creating a Wild Scatter. If you hit three or more scatters of any description, you’ll trigger the free spin bonus game.

You can choose from three options: 5 free spins and wilds that expand in every direction, 10 free spins and wilds that expand in two directions, or 15 free spins and wilds that expand in one direction. Additional free spins can be triggered within the game too.

Reel Rush

Reel Rush from NetEnt comes in with an RTP just a shade under 97%, medium volatility and up to an amazing 3125 ways to win. The game has a retro feel, somewhere between classic Super Mario graphics and a fruit machine. The symbols are all glossy depictions of different types of fruit.

When you begin the game, the outermost corners of the reels are locked. Every time you hit a winning line, a respin is automatically triggered and more of the grid opens up. It means on your first spin, there are 135 winning lines, 405 on the second, 675 on the third, and so on up to 3125 if the whole grid is cleared.

If you hit five winning lines in a row, 8 free spins will automatically be triggered. There are also golden Wild symbols, which appear on three of the reels and substitute for any other symbol in the game.

Bonanza

Bonanza from Big Time Gaming is a bit of a classic, and has spawned a number of sequels. With an RTP of 96% it’s not the best value slot on our list, but there are still lots of other reasons it’s proved so popular.

The game is themed around gold mining and uses a Megaways format, which means the number of winning lines is randomised on every spin. The symbols can land in different sizes, and there are four extra horizontal symbols in a special reel at the top of the screen in the shape of a cart.

Cascading reels are in play, so that every time you hit a winning combo the winning symbols get replaced by new ones and the wins can roll over. There’s also a wild Dynamite symbol, which substitutes for any other symbol but the scatter.

The Scatter symbols are golden blocks which spell out G-O-L-D when you hit all of them, triggering 12 free spins. There’s also a special scatter, which only appears in the carts and adds an additional 5 spins when it lands.

Iron Bank

Iron Bank from Relax Gaming is nothing if not original. The 6×4 slot is themed around… a bank heist involving a military clad cat and an angry bull, along with cigars, brandy and an ornamental banana? Like we said, original.

This is a high volatility game, with an RTP of 96.2% and a max payout of 50,000x, which is excellent. Matching symbols in any position on adjacent reels pays out from the left hand side, meaning there are a total of 4096 winning lines every spin.

The cat symbol is wild, and can also appear stacked to cover an entire reel. When this happens, the land with a random multiplier attached. A number of random mystery symbols can also appear during any spin, which wind up all turning into the same symbol.

The scatter symbol is a silver bank vault and landing three of them triggers the bonus game. You can also buy into the game directly any time you like, but it’ll cost you a premium.

You can choose between three different modes for the bonus, Mystery Symbols, Expanding Wilds or the Collector – all of which have their own positives and negatives.

FAQs

RTP stands for Return to Player. It tells us how much of the total money bet a slot pays out in winnings over the long term. It is expressed in a percentage. For example, an RTP of 97% suggests that 97% of everything that is bet on a slot machine gets paid out.

Yes, every slot theoretically has an RTP since every slot accepts bets and pays out wins.

Yes, any game that involves a casino accepting bets and paying out wins theoretically has an RTP. European roulette has a fixed RTP of 97.3%. Blackjack, which incorporates elements of strategy, can have a housed edge of anything 90-99%.

Yes. The house edge refers to the percentage of bets that the casino or house keeps as profit. It’s the inverse of the RTP, so if a slot has an RTP of 96.5% it means the house edge is 3.5%.

RTP is calculated using software that simulates hundreds of thousands or millions of spins on the slot. The total amount paid out over all those simulated spins, divided by the total value of bets, makes the RTP.

No. RTP refers to the expected payout over the long run. It provides no information about WHEN the slot is going to pay out, or the type of payout.

No. The vast majority of the time, the RTP of a slot is fixed and nothing you can do will change it.

The average RTP for slots is around 96%.

A high RTP slot is any game with an RTP of over 96%. This gives you a better than industry average chance of winning.

Any slot under 96% is considered low RTP. The lower you go, the worse value the slot is to play.

Volatility refers to the frequency with which a slot pays out wins. A low volatility slot pays out regularly but the wins tend to be smaller. High volatility slots pay out infrequently, but the wins tend to be bigger.

RTP is not affected by slot’s volatility. However, it’s a good idea to consider both when choosing which slot to play.

High volatility slots are perfect for players who are chasing big jackpot wins, and are prepared to potentially not win for a decent length of time. It’s a good idea to have a pretty deep bankroll if you’re playing very volatile slots.

Low volatility slots make sense for more risk-averse players who like to hit small regular wins. They also make sense for lower stakes and lower bankroll players.

RTP is a quick way to figure out how good your chances are of winning on a slot. It’s no guarantee of anything, but choosing to play high RTP slots gives you a better shot of winning in the long run, compared with low RTP games.

Casinos often list the RTP of their slots in the menu or in the information page you can access when you open the slot. Otherwise, you can search for the slot on its software provider page where you should see the RTP.

The RTP is normally built into the slot by the software provider who created it. Sometimes, casinos can adjust the RTP of the slots they host.

A software provider is a company that creates and designs online casino games and other pieces of casino software.
