Kabaddi at the Asian Games betting tips and predictions

Kabaddi at the Asian Games goes back to 1982 when it made its first appearance as an exhibition sport. Betting on Kabaddi matches in the Asian Games is as easy as betting on Pro Kabaddi.

What can you bet on?

The most common bets are betting on the outcome of the Kabaddi match:

And with like any other popular sport, it’s also possible to bet on the number of points scored, match winner, and a range of other events. The selection of bets you can make online for Kabaddi matches is similar to the options you have when betting on other Indian sports like cricket and soccer.

Betting odds in Kabaddi

Reading the betting odds in Kabaddi is very similar to other team-based sports, like cricket or soccer. If you are betting in India, you will probably see the betting odds in a decimal format. Let’s take some example Kabbadi match-results odds below:

To understand how much you would win, simply multiply your stake by the decimal number. The smaller number is always the “favorite”, which means the team that the Kabaddi betting site thinks is most likely to win. The team with a larger number is the “underdog”, which the sportsbook thinks is less likely to win.

As you can see from the line above, you can also bet on a draw. Since Kabaddi games rarely end in a draw, the odds are generally quite attractive for these bets.

Let’s see how much you would win in each case, with a bet of ₹1,000.

Of course, before you place your bet, the Kabaddi betting site or a Kabaddi betting app will show you how much you stand to win too, so you don’t even need to calculate it yourself. When you are ready to place a bet, just click the side of the bet you want and it will be automatically added to the bet-slip.

A match result bet couldn’t be easier. If you are new to betting on Kabaddi, this is a great way to ease yourself in. You won’t believe how much more fun it is to cheer for a team when you have a bet riding on the game.

Other odds formats

As you can see, the decimal odds format is very easy to get your head around. However, there are other ways of expressing odds you should be aware of. In fact, most Indian betting sites allow you to display your preferred format.

Fractional Odds

Fractional odds are more common in the UK. The same line as above expressed using fractional odds looks like this:

This information is exactly the same as the previous example using decimal odds. To find out how much you stand to win, simply divide your stake by the bottom half of the fraction and multiply it by the top to see how much profit you will make.

Moneyline Odds

Also known as American odds, this is the most common format used in the US. It takes a little more getting used to than the other methods.

In this format, the negative value is always the favorite, and the positive is the underdog.

Here is the same line expressed using Moneyline odds:

Again, the information expressed here is exactly the same as in the two previous lines.

The negative number tells you how much you have to bet to win ₹100 in profit. The positive number tells you how much you will profit on a bet of ₹100.

In each of these examples, the betting lines show a match result bet, by far the most common way to bet on Kabaddi. However, depending on your preferred Kabaddi betting site you might find many other betting options too.

Next up we’re going to take a run down through some other possible ways to bet on Kabaddi.

Double Chance

This is similar to a match result bet, but instead of only winning your bet if you forecast the correct result, instead, you can win with either of two potential outcomes.

Every standard Kabaddi match as three potential outcomes: team A wins, team B win or it’s a draw. Double chance means you are betting on either of two of them, giving you “double the chance” of winning.

A double chance line might look like this:

The “X” in this case refers to a draw. Double chance bets are a good way of eliminating some risk, although you will take a hit on the odds.

There is nothing more frustrating than losing your bet due to a last-minute equalizer. This is even more true in Kabaddi since draws are quite rare. Double chance bets are one way to make sure this doesn’t happen to you.

Futures Bets

Futures are for gamblers who like to look long term. A futures bet is basically a bet on an outcome that is a long way off, like betting on the winner of the Pro Kabaddi League at the start of the season, or the winner of the World Cup.

To win a futures bet, your prediction has to do well over a long period of time.

Futures tend to have attractive odds since it’s harder to predict a winner a long time in advance and there are a lot of variables at play.

A futures bet might look like this:

To Win the Pro Kabaddi League 2020

Placing a futures bet at the start of the season is a good way to add a little more spice to your viewing over the course of the season. Even if you don’t have time to watch or bet on lots of games, it’s nice to keep an eye on the results and know your bet is still alive.

Totals

With a total bet, you’re not betting on who is winning or losing but rather on how many points are scored. Like basketball or American football, Kabaddi is well suited to totals bets since games can be quite a high scoring.

When betting on a total you either take the over or the under compared to a line set by the Indian betting sites. A typical line might look like this:

In this case, the Kabaddi betting site thinks that the most likely number of points scored in the game is either 28 or 29. Therefore, they accept bets on either more or less than 28.5 The odds for totals are always not far off even money since it’s theoretically a 50/50 shot.

Choosing a total bet on Kabaddi is a good option if you can’t choose between the two sides, but have a good idea about how the match will pan out. If you know two very strong defensive teams are facing each other, bet on the under and avoid having to pick a winner. On the other hand, with two excellent attacking teams, think about backing the over.

Handicap Betting

Also known as point spread betting, handicap betting is popular when it comes to betting on NFL and rugby. Both teams are given a certain value of points that are designed to even the playing field before the game. For this reason, the odds on each team are always around 2.0.

The underdog is given a positive number of points, essentially a head start. The favorite is given a negative number. To win a handicap bet, your team needs to win the game with respect to their handicap.

This means that you can bet on the losing team and still win the bet if they lose by fewer points than their handicap. Check out the line below:

Handicap Betting on Kabbadi

In this case, the sportsbook thinks that the Patna Pirates are the favorite and that they will win by 6.5 points on average. If you bet on them to win in this case, they need to win by at least 7 points for you to win your handicap bet.

Since the odds are more stable, handicap betting is a good way to bet on the favorite without having to accept very bad odds. Alternatively, if you like the underdog, handicap betting allows you to back them while removing a lot of the risk.

Accumulators

Known as parlay bets in US sports betting, accumulators are multi-leg bets. In order to win your accumulator, all of your legs must be successful.

For example, imagine you bet on the Bengal Warriors, Patna Pirates, and Jaipur Pink Panthers all to win their separate matches in one round of the Pro Kabaddi League. If the Warriors and Pirates win but the Pink Panthers lose, you lose your accumulator bet and win nothing. To win your bet, every part of the bet must win.

Since multi-leg bets are by definition more difficult to predict, accumulators have very attractive odds. The more legs you add to your accumulator, the greater the odds, and the bigger the potential payout.

Accumulators are easy to place. Just add selections to the bet slip in your sportsbook and choose the accumulator option (or “Double” if it’s just two legs, “Treble” for three). The bet slip will automatically calculate the odds and you can test out how much you would win before placing the bet.

Kabaddi live betting

Some betting sites in India offer live betting options on kabaddi which can add a ton of excitement when you’re watching a match. With Kabaddi live betting, the player can live stream the Kabaddi match and make bets as the game proceeds. Inplay betting allows the player to take advantage of information obtained while the game is still running. Live betting is particularly great for making insurance bets if you have already placed bets before the game begins on a Kabaddi betting app or a Kabaddi betting site.

Live betting on Kabaddi is really exciting. It’s such a dynamic game that it really is tailor-made for betting in real-time. There is a new raid every minute or so, bringing a whole new set of betting possibilities.

The betting options are often more restricted for live bets, and you may only be able to bet on the result in some sportsbooks. Still, every sportsbook is different, and as Kabaddi grows you may well find more and more types of markets, like the ones above, available to bet on live betting sites.

Which Kabaddi live betting site is the best?

It can be hard to choose a live Kabaddi betting site. There are many Indian online casinos, and picking the perfect betting website can be very hard. Look for a betting site or a betting app that offers odds on all tournaments, or at least the Kabaddi event you’re looking to bet on. Also, make sure it’s easy to do both deposit and withdrawal from your user account.

Winning Strategies for Betting on Kabaddi

Betting on Kabaddi is a pretty new phenomenon in the world of sports betting. And if there is one thing we know from experience, it’s that brand new trends and brand new markets often present opportunities to win big. The growth of Kabaddi is wonderful to see. It means more and more people, including fans outside of India and its neighboring countries, are starting to watch and bet on the sport. However, it also means the public is still learning about Kabaddi and how to bet on it.

Below we have put together some Kabaddi tips and strategies that will help make you a long term winner betting on Kabaddi.

#1 – Understand the Sport Before Betting

Our first tip is specifically aimed at people who might be coming to Kabaddi for the first time. This may seem like an obvious piece of advice, but you would be shocked at the number of people who jump headfirst into betting on things they don’t really understand.

It’s true that betting on Kabaddi is ripe for exploitation, but that doesn’t mean you get to just skip the hard work. Invest time in watching and truly understanding the sport before you even think about betting. Kabaddi is a simple game but one with lots of quirks and nuances you need to get your head around to truly understand it.

As well as watching plenty of Kabaddi, do your statistical research. Get a feel for the styles of the different teams and players and their history. There are no shortcuts for fully understanding any sport, and Kabaddi is no different.

When you feel ready to bet, start with simple match result bets, and work your way up. Ultimately our goal is to stay one step ahead of the betting public (very doable) and the Kabaddi betting sites (more difficult). To achieve this, we need to be very well-informed and have a real feel for Kabaddi.

#2 – Betting Against the Public

If you have some experience in sports betting already you might be familiar with this concept, but it holds even more weight when it comes to betting on Kabaddi.

In general, the theory is that there are lots of casual fans out there placing bets without an in-depth understanding of what they are doing, and you can exploit this lack of knowledge by betting against them. This becomes even more pronounced in Kabaddi since it’s so young and fast-growing.

For example, between 2016 and 2017 Kabaddi claimed almost 100 million new viewers in India. But it takes time to really understand the sport in a professional context. Those new converts are likely to be swept away in the excitement of their new interest, and only a small fraction of them need to start betting on Kabaddi to create line movement.

What is line movement

Line movement refers to how the odds change over time, generally in response to how the public is betting. It is key to betting against the public, especially when it comes to betting against the public favorite. The more heavily the public back one side of a bet, the more the line moves in favor of the other side. This creates value, which we can exploit.

Let’s think about an example. The current holders of the Pro Kabaddi League are the Bengal Warriors. All the millions of new fans attracted each year will be on the lookout for a team to support, and you can be sure most people will gravitate towards recent success.

So the new season starts and millions of people are suddenly supporting the Bengal Warriors, for no other reason than they remember them winning the previous year. People love to bet on their favorite teams, and on what is perceived as the best teams, so people start to bet on the Bengal Warriors.

But the Pro Kabaddi League is very competitive. Sure the Warriors won last year, but it was their first title in the history of the league. Maybe they will do well again, maybe they won’t. But suddenly there are millions of shiny new fans betting on them, moving the line in favor of their rivals.

This creates golden opportunities to take advantage of the inflated odds, and bet against the public.

Remember: this does not mean you should always bet against the public. The strategy, not a cheat code. You still need to do your own analysis and make your own predictions.

It is an extremely important factor to be aware of, however, and one which will make you money when exploited correctly.

#3 – Kabaddi Betting Statistics

Having a feel for the sport is important, but it’s equally important to use cold hard facts and stats to guide your bets. Research and statistical analysis are huge in sports betting.

It’s not hard to spot trends and make predictions from even simple analysis. Check the home and away form of both teams. Even if both teams are level in the league table, you might find the away side almost exclusively picks up their points at home, making it attractive to bet against them on the road. Ask yourself how the styles of each team match up. Think about player injuries and other factors that can affect key players’ performance on the court.

Thinking about what happened in the past is our best bet for predicting the future. There have only been seven full seasons of the Pro Kabaddi League, which makes historical analysis much simpler. You can look at this in two ways.

One the one hand, there is limited data from which to generate predictions. On the other, you have access to all of it.

With only seven seasons worth of information, it is much easier to analyze and understand, and to make predictions. This an excellent way to give you the edge over the casual bettors who don’t bother doing their research.

Compare that with, for example, the Premier League/Division One in the UK, which has been running for over 100 years. You would need some sophisticated statistical software to get through that mountain of information. That’s not the case with Kabaddi.

In Pro Kabaddi, the data is limited, but it’s manageable and therefore, easy to use.

#4 – Choose the Right Type of Bet

This advice is somewhat impeded by the limited markets available on Kabaddi at the moment, but it’s important not to restrict yourself to one kind of bet.  Do your research, develop your predictions, and then ask yourself what kind of bet will help you take advantage of them.

Maybe you think both teams have a really strong offensive game, but you can’t choose between them for the win. Think about taking the over in an over/under bet to take advantage of the high scoring game. If you think the underdog is a lot better than the odds suggest, but not convinced they have enough to win? Look at the handicap betting.

There’s more than one way to skin a cat and more than one way to win betting on Kabaddi.

#5 – Line Shopping

Quite a lot of sportsbooks offer bets on Kabaddi these days, but the number is still low compared to the top sports. This makes line shopping very easy.

Line shopping means checking different sportsbooks to find the best odds for your bet. By and large, odds tend to be fairly similar across different betting sites in India, but there are always differences. Taking advantage of these small edges over time can make a massive difference long term. If you notice a big swing in the odds against your preferred bet, it’s always worth checking other betting sites in India, which might not have changed their lines in the same way.

Another important thing to remember: betting on Kabaddi is new for fans, but it’s also new for betting sites in India. It might take a while for sportsbooks to develop good practices for setting lines, especially for new markets, which you can take advantage of.

You are far more likely to find differences in odds on Kabaddi than in a more popular and established sport like soccer, where the sportsbooks have many decades of experience.

How is Kabaddi played?

Kabaddi is a contact team sport between two teams of seven players each, with up to five substitutes each. There are many amateur regional variations in the rules, but on this page, we are concentrating on the professional game.

The game is played on a rectangular court, generally 13 x 10 meters. The aim of the game is to score more points than the opposing team.

Each team takes turns sending one player (or “raider”) into the opposing team’s half of the court. The raider must reach the baulk line/check line before trying to tag out the seven opposing players by touching them and then make it back to their half of the court without being tackled. Each player that the raider manages to tag results in one point.

However, he or she must do all of this in one breath. To show to the referee that he has only taken one breath, he must continually chant the word “kabaddi” during his turn. A thirty-second shot clock is also imposed.

The defending team must try to avoid being touched, and attempt to prevent the raider from returning to his side of the court by physically tackling him. Raiders who are successfully tackled and defenders who are successfully tagged are temporarily out of the game, but they can be revived by their team scoring points.

A kabaddi match consists of two 20 minute halves.

Kabaddi is very high energy and really fun to watch. Although there is plenty to learn, the sport itself is not too complicated, and you’ll have no trouble picking it up quickly even if it’s your first time watching. If you are totally new to Kabaddi, we recommend you take the time to fully understand the information in this guide before betting on it.

History of Kabaddi in India

Although professional Kabaddi is a recent development, the game itself is hundreds of years old. Accounts differ in their origin. Some sources claim a version of Kabaddi was played by the Buddha all the way back around 500 BC.

Some claim Kabaddi’s roots are in India and the Indian subcontinent. Since it requires no equipment, Kabaddi has historically been an inclusive sport available to and played by all types of people, regardless of their social class or wealth.  Before it was formalized, there were (and still are) widespread regional variations in the rules of Kabaddi, both across India and other countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Iran. These local Kabaddi traditions continue to thrive today.

However, the 1920s and ’30s brought an effort to make Kabaddi a more serious sport, as the first competitions were held in India. Thus Kabaddi began the process of transforming from an informal game played in villages around Asia to a competitive international sport.

The Indian Kabaddi Federation was formed in 1950. In 1951 Kabaddi was first played as a demonstration sport at the Asian Games, and since 1990 it has been played competitively at every Asian Games.  The first Kabaddi World Cup was held in 2004, with India beating Iran in the final.  The sport took another major leap forward in 2014, with the foundation of the Pro Kabaddi League in India. This was the first time Kabaddi was played professionally. Today the Pro Kabaddi League is the second most popular sport in India, behind only cricket.

Following the success of the Pro league in India, further professional leagues in Pakistan and Iran were founded.

It was with the formation and popularity of the professional leagues that Indian betting sites began to pay greater attention to Kabaddi. Virtually all major sports betting sites in India and many around the world now offer betting options on Kabaddi, and both the sport and the betting options are growing exponentially.

Future of Kabaddi betting

Betting on Kabaddi is in a period of major growth. So far, all the bets we have covered are more or less the extent of the markets available for the sport. But not for long. You can be certain that as the sport continues to soar in popularity, more betting options will become available. We predict that the next big addition to Kabaddi betting will be prop bets.

The structure of the sport makes it really well-suited to prop bets, especially live props. It won’t be long before you are able to bet on how many players are successfully tagged in each 30-second raid, or how many raiders are prevented returning to their side of the court. You will be able to bet on more rare occurrences, too, like whether there will be an All-Out or a Super-Tackle.

Betting on Kabaddi is only just beginning. In our view, this is part of what makes it such a great sport to get into right now.
